Future of AMD's Zen CPUs?


Since i feel like AMD is heading towards the lead of HPC (high performance computing) somewhere 2019, it might be fun to see what they litterally can do with current possibilities.

My speculation about this whole subject, please take this with a bucket or 2 of salt!

Half 2019: Zen2 (+12% IPC) & Radeon Navi (+15% IPC) arrival

Mainstream APU desktop (4-8 cores):

  • 4 Cores @ 4.0GHz base with 8 CU's, up to 65W TDP
  • 6 Cores @ 3.8GHz base with 10 CU's, up to 65W TDP
  • 8 Cores @ 3.5GHz base with 11 CU's, up to  95W TDP

Mainstream desktop (4-16 cores): (Teased at CES 2019)

  • 4 Cores @ 4.5GHz base, up to 65W TDP
  • 6 Cores @ 4.4GHz base, up to 95W TDP
  • 8 Cores @ 4.3GHz base, up to 95W TDP
  • 12 Cores @ 4.0GHz base, up to 95W TDP
  • 16 Cores @ 3.6GHz base, up to 105W TDP

High end desktop (16-40 cores):

  • 16 Cores @ 3.8GHz base, up to 180W TDP
  • 32 Cores @ 3.4GHz base, up to 250W TDP
  • 40 Cores @ 3.2GHz base, up to 250W TDP

Server (16-64 cores):

  • 16 Cores @ 3.8GHz base, up to 180W TDP
  • 32 Cores @ 2.8GHz base, up to 180W TDP
  • 64 Cores @ 2.0GHz base, up to 180W TDP
